Numbers don’t lie and that includes the number of satisfied Popcaan supporters. The Dancehall star released his hit song, “Numbers Don’t Lie,” in December 2019 and earlier today (April 15th) added visuals to the track. Just like the song’s audio, the video does not disappoint.
Popcaan uses the visuals to depict the message that his success did not come overnight, instead, it was a process. The video takes place in Jamaica where he shows his development journey from youth to his current self. Side note: we love that the cultural imagery of the Jamaican marketplace that acts as one of the backdrops for the video.
The artiste divides the music video into three (3) chapters: Chapter One (Growth), Chapter Two (The Hustle) and Chapter Three (The Come Up). As the video is introduced, Popcaan juxtaposes the lyrics of his success, support and female admiration to visuals of a younger him who receives ridicule from females instead of admiration.
A young Popcaan is momentarily discouraged but rejection only increases his hustle and drive. The Unruly Boss goes from excitement over a few hundred Jamaican dollars, made from selling produce at the market, to becoming the current ultra-successful persona that is Popcaan. Present-day Poppy can attain plenty of women, a lot of money and tons of support—including ours!
Overall, the video leaves viewers with an increased motivation to commit to their own success. This is reflected in the surge of positive comments on YouTube.
