While the world is being shifted and shaken by the likes of COVID-19, some individuals are shifting the ways of business and entertainment to adjust to the new norms. 

The sudden halt in the party and entertainment industry that has stifled promoters, artistes and DJs, amongst various other professions, has served as creative inspiration for DJ Hutchy (Dannilo Hutchinson). 

Total Isolation Radio is a concept conceived by DJ Hutchy and has quickly become a Bajan favourite. The Barbadian DJ along with his counterparts, DJ Psalms and Level Vibes, created the Total Isolation Radio station to provide musical entertainment and showcase the talents of various DJs.

What Makes Total Isolation Radio Unique? 

Audiences are not given any indications as the which DJ is playing live. This translates to no DJ tags and no talking. Hutchy told WI Kulcha that the show is structured this way to “allow the younger and less popular ones (DJs) to have the same amount of listeners as the more popular DJs.” 

The main goal of the station is to provide a much-needed escape from the pandemic and to create a virtual party space for those who are missing cruises, parties, concerts, and raves.

In our chat with DJ Hutchy, he explained that since large social gatherings have been restricted, he went from “doing four to five events a weekend to having no gigs at all.” However, instead of being discouraged, he was inspired.

In addition to Total Isolation Radio, DJ Hutchy has been busy with paid gigs for private Zoom parties hosted by individuals celebrating birthdays and special events in the privacy of their homes.

“For everything in life that happens, you must find ways to adapt” and that is exactly what he has been doing. The popular DJ continued, “I’ve been using this time to sharpen my skills, research on the internet, see what’s happening across the world, so that when things reopen I will be able to jump head-on into the entertainment market with new ideas, new skills.”

The Future Is Bright

Total Isolation Radio has secured advertising partnerships from major brands, namely Hennessy and Belaire Rosé. The show is likely to continue long after COVID-19 abates.

DJ Hutchy ended the interview with some excellent advice, “this thing will not last forever, but in the meantime, look inward, find ways to work on you, so that you may be a better person when the world reopens.” 

We look forward to the fetes, “limes,” and cruises but until then it’s ideas like Total Isolation Radio that keeps us entertained and inspired.
