Koffee (Mikayla Simpson) is piling up achievements quicker than we can brew a cup of coffee! The reggae singer is featured on J Hus’ new album, Big Conspiracy, which is currently (February 2nd, 2020) the number one album in the United Kingdom. No biggie for the nineteen-year-old Grammy winner!
The Spanish Town (Jamaica) native lends her talent to the album’s 7th track—Repeat. If you’ve been following Koffee’s meteoric rise then it will come as no surprise that this collaboration is a banger! Do yourself a favour and add it to your playlist now.
Both artistes complement each other well and effortlessly puts the listener in a feel-good mood. Koffee’s verse is full of the humblebrags we love from her, such as ”Every day ah flight, switch planes. We already poppin’, we don’t need champagne.”
J Hus is a household name in the United Kingdom and a bonafide star. If you are discovering him because of Koffee, we highly recommend checking out the entire album, which received an 8/10 rating from Pitchfork. The artiste is credited with popularizing the genre Afroswing, which is also referred to as Afrobashment or Afrobbean.
Last week Koffee walked away with the Grammy award for Best Reggae Album for her debut project — “Rapture.” She is the first female and youngest artiste to win the category. Previous winners include Reggae/Dancehall greats like Damian Marley, Shaggy, Beenie Man, and Buju Banton.
Just three years ago Koffe was a high school student seriously considering a career as a pharmacist. Jump forward to the present day and the teen is currently preparing for a major performance at the famed Coachella festival in April.
We can’t wait to hear what else Koffee has in store for us in 2020.
