If you’re a fan of music, hey man, cheers to you. However, if you’re a fan of good reggae music that puts your waist on groove and your head on move, then this artiste is for you. Five years since embarking on his musical journey, A#keem (Akeem Abraham) in 2020 is sporting longer hair, if possible an even wider smile, and recently, this lovey-groovy piece, “When I’m With You”.
Here’s a fun fact: “When I’m With You” was born out of a conversation with Vincentian artiste and producer, Roshik Mason (Mason Made Music). Roshik sent A#keem a demo of a beat that he was working on which A#keem immediately connected with. Mixed and Mastered by Roshik Mason himself, a year later, 2020 sees its visuals being supportive of the lyrics of the song. According to A#keem, “When I’m With You” is a song that speaks of a roots type of love. A love that focuses not just on the physical aspects, but ensures focus on mental, and emotional maturity, while enjoying the bliss of togetherness and adventure”.
The Laura Alston directed visuals show A#keem’s lyrics penned by himself, turned it into a nature-loving, heart holding, “roots type of love” series of scenes. Shot on the island of Grenada, the video’s couple, Nikita McIntyre and real-life boyfriend Marcus Croney moved effortlessly with each other, both flowing in tune with the song’s lyrics. Their scenes exude a type of purity that can be labelled as ‘rare’; be it their time in the island’s open, natural places or by themselves closed off from the world within their personal living space.
In bringing this project from thought to reality, A#keem was surrounded by a team of professionals such as the video’s Director, Laura Alston; Harry Varley who was the shoot’s photographer; Teddy Frederick who played the role of videographer/editor; Juma Mawuto, the man responsible for BTS videography and photography; and lastly, apart from playing an acting role, Nikita McIntyre took on the role of the Stylist which by profession, she is no stranger to.
